Have read great reviews about this place originally but my experience wasnt the same. Food was okay. Ive had better Ethiopian cuisine. Really felt like the flavors were lacking the day I went. Would go again to give it a second try because the service was great and I really enjoy the type of cuisine.

Ordered a lamb meat platter for 2 with 6 vegetarian sides. The food was fresh and the injera was traditional style. I especially liked the lamb and I specifically asked if it was frozen (it is not) before ordering it. The split peas and the red lentils are other great favorites as well as the collard greens. Having lived in DC for several years (which has a huge Ethiopian community), I am spoiled when it comes Ethiopian food and Awash certainly delivers on excellent traditional dishes and cute cocktails.
There’s not a lot of Ethiopian places in nyc as a whole, but don’t mistake lack of quantity for lack of quality. This place makes excellent food — perfectly spiced, not too oily, best quality injera to eat it with. Ethiopian cuisine has excellent vegan options which is what drew me to it, and Awash does not disappoint. So glad we have this restaurant in our neighborhood!
This is one of my FAVORITE places. This gem, is kind, and tasty. Also as someone who has people with allergies, they have been able to accommodate and there as been no incident. Everything on the menu is delicious & worth it.
So delicious and flavorful. Will be returning for more. Had the veggie combo #3 and the tibs wat option. Delicious!!!! Recommend these options to anyone who is interested in trying Ethiopian food.
