Calm and peaceful, lovely walk along the public footpath through Highclere grounds

Do not come here on a bicycle. You will be made very unwelcome, and have to push the bike for miles

Concerned as to the practices in place to deter the public from visiting Highclere grounds during the Winter season. Visited 5/01/2019 and there are carefully worded signs placed at the front of the entrance to the grounds specifically designed to deter potential walkers entering the grounds through deceptive messaging. This is ripe given the financial benefits derived by the estate's owners from the mere mortals that spend their money there when it is declared open to the public. A note for the Estate Manager to remove and re-word BADLY misleading signage designed to try to turn back those wishing to take advantage of PUBLIC FOOTPATHS which legally cross the estate. See the photographs which speak a thousand words. Note to aspiring royalty...even the estate of Windsor respects public footpaths! If they want privacy and want to re-route and deter use of public footpaths to restrict the public harassing them suggest they move to an estate that doesn't have public footpaths! Quite shocking double standards in my opinion. You CANNOT have your cake AND eat it! Oh, and paying security guards to police the front gate merely adds to the impression that the place is SHUT for the Winter, when in fact the PUBLIC FOOTPATHS are ALWAYS open! Not impressed! Oh, the 'drawbridge' crossing the A34 is not a drawbridge!! Neither is it owned by the estate! Building an impression that the estate is "closed to the public" (hoy polloy) through these methods is a bridge too far! What do the commoners think please?

What a stunning picturesque place. The grounds are beautiful. On my next visit I plan to go inside the castle itself.

I came here for a country show and exhibited my stationary engine and it was really fun. In the evening we went for a walk to the lake and it was really pretty.
