The Baths is a free place to swim which uses ocean water. It has a lap area and bridge separating that a general swimming area. There is shaded seating and stadium style seating along the lap pool. There are about 45 car parks just outside with extra on the adjacent streets. There isn't a specific shallow pool for children, however the Newcastle Canoe pool is right next to it. The council is looking to upgrade the pavilion. Currently its closed all day, every Wednesday for cleaning and the water is pumped out and refreshed. Merewether baths should be open when this is closed for cleaning.

Very nice Ocean Bath, we have visited.. We love ️ here.. Very recommended for beach and rock pool swimming in New South Wales
Fantastic ocean baths for a casual splash n giggle or for some lap swimming. Usually nice clear water but can be murky at times after a lot of rain or big swells.
Really nice place to chill, have a swim and surf. Saw people fishing too. Toilets are available. Parking isn't so busy on cooler weather but might be packed during hotter days. A good place nonetheless.
always lovely going here especially to the "kids/babies" pool. it's always clean and well maintained
Best place for kids. It’s not a rock pool so not slippery or deep. Absolutely safe for kids and adults who can’t swim. I been there twice from Sydney specifically visit this sandy natural pool.
A beautiful setting from another era. A lap pool, a huge leisure pool and a toddler pool. Drained and cleaned every Wednesday, so don't plan to swim on a Wednesday! Such a gorgeous, well-maintained, free facility.
One of the best ocean baths in Australia. Old school classic.
