We used Firefly, Hertz's cheaper cousin and elected to hire from the downtown branch rather than at the airport (which is considerably more expensive). Overall we had a great experience. Formalities were straightforward (you'll need proof of address if you're hiring from outside the UK) and quick (they accepted our excess insurance cover without any hard sell attempt) and the staff in the garage are great - they happily answered all our questions. Drop off took less than five minutes; the car was checked for fuel, mileage and any damage and we were signed off there and then and told there would be no further charges. The actual car (some kind of Vauxhall) was almost brand new and other than being a bit underpowered (it struggled up hills) was perfectly adequate. It was the car we'd been expecting too!

Make sure you book online to avoid disappointment, obviously I just turned up at the door and they was fully booked that day. However if I had booked online I know this place would have the perfect car instead ended up at a different garage and got ripped off both in terms of the vehicle and the service.

It was my first time to book a car from this very bad and unprofessional rental company I booked my car through rental cars, as I usually do, but when I arrived to pick my car the Hertz staff refused to give me the car that I already paid to rent they claimed that my international driving license is not accepted in UK. I told them that I had previously rented cars from different companies using my same driving license but they said these companies are breaking the Uk’s laws!!! Hertz staff were really unprofessional putting personal arguments to prove there false claims. It was a very disappointing experience with Hertz staff who really showed they need more training to respect customers and being more polite. Hertz staff at Newcastle branch represent the image of bad company.

I had such an awful experience with this company, me and my partner came to blyth to visit some friends where our car decided to die, so my partner booked a car online to collect from Newcastle. All was accepted online and was reserved so we got a 30 taxi to Newcastle to collect. When we got the the office (which is a bit of a walk for someone disabled and with untrustworthy legs) we were greeted with the worst customer service possible. When we walked in we weren't greeted with a smile or a hello etc. Just a hi? When we came to sorting the documents out for the car we were told that we weren't allowed the car we had booked due to my partners age, we would have to have a smaller/more expensive one. After agreeing to this we were then asked for a 250.00 holding deposit! This may be there company rules but due to the fact we were never told about this though out the booking online this came as a shock. Once we told the people in the office we could not afford this they rolled there eyes and said "well I can't give you a car until you pay it so I guess we can't help" they then got up and walked into the back office without a second word. I politely said thanks and bye when I left with no response. Absolutely awful and very uncomfortable. So after another 30 taxi back to my friends house in blyth My family member is now having to drive 300 miles to pick us up and take us home and we have had to take time off of work this evening! Such a shame! Defo won't be using the company again!
