A friendly little traditional pub. We were soaked and covered in mud from walking the coastal path but landlady was really welcoming. The beer on draft was good. They also do food but we didn’t try anything.

Staying in Wales for a week and visiting Cardigan, we asked in a local coffee shop if they knew somewhere good to eat in Newport our next destination? They recommended The Royal Oak saying it may not look much from the outside but the food is great. So off we went and we certainly weren't disappointed. We ordered the sea bass with lemon sauce, the Hunter chicken and 2 different curries with rice. The food came and we were all seriously impressed at the quantity and then the quality. The lamb curry was so tender, the king prawn so fresh and plenty of them. The sea bass was huge with amazing lemon sauce and the Hunters chicken comprised two chicken breasts with an amazing sauce. The service was spot and staff were very helpful and friendly. Nice local beers in a very homely pub. We will definitely make a special visit to eat here again. Thank you to all concerned, well done. Paul, Tracey, Barbara and Bob.
Food was lovely, and filling I couldn't finish mine. but the signs everywhere stating if kids are with you they need to be quiet and not run around where off putting. Especially when It sounded like a Hurd of elephants live upstairs. 1 sign near the bar would have been enough. Also cod and haddock are completely different fish. Haddock is flakier and drier. Service wasn't that great either the young boy who brought out our food sounded as if he didn't want to be there. Overall if you want somewhere for great food come here but dont expect great service.
Good food, HUGE portions, felt embarrassed sending half a plate of food back. Very friendly staff. Surroundings \tired\ plenty of parking!
Friendly pub serving great curries! Very pleasant staff.
