The waking trail to Castra Falls starts on Gaunts Road at a small off-road parking area that has some information and photographs about the walk. Like many Forestry managed tourist areas in Tasmania the falls walk has falling into disrepair and is now maintained by volunteers. The trail is marked with ribbons and is generally distinct and not too difficult to follow, however experience and expertise in bush walking in remote areas is suggested. The signed side-trail to view Castra Falls requires descending (then ascending) a very steep embankment to the rivulet below. The side track to the falls is very steep and potentially slippery and hazardous. A rope has been installed to assist the descent and assent. Castra Falls is the second of 3 falls on the circuit trail.

We did the circuit and it was absolutely beautiful, in particular the first half. Yes it was hard and challenging in particular towards the end with very steep rocks to climb, but we did it no problem. I wouldn't take children though. We had no issues in following the pink ribbons and made it in about 2/3 hours. To go see the waterfalls you need to leave the main circuit, we didn't do that as it was getting dark, just enjoyed the beautiful walk and the first beautiful waterfall. It would have been nice if the track was well maintained, people wouldn't risk to get lost, unfortunately it wasn't, but luckly we made it!

Such a great walk! Three falls/cascades on offer throughout the circuit. Took us 1.5hrs and that was with a stop for lunch. Parts are quite steep and slippery, would definitely recommend wearing solid and grippy shoes.

Short walk, a little steep, but beautiful. If you want to explore further you need a couple of hours and sturdy shoes

Couldn't find it, found the cascade and step falls. Didn't want to explore then trip to my death. Fun walk.

The landscape was diverse and beautiful, not too far out. Definitely not for beginners.

Terrible walking trail that I've ever been!! Please do not visit here unless you want to die in an Aussie mountain. No specific track and no car park. The course is sparsely signed by some tiny ribbons. I am sure you will not be able to find them. Of course the road is very steep and every trees have been cut. I got lost again and again. I followed wallabys and barely found the road. The more important thing is, waterfalls do not look good, water is so unclear.
