I loved this small forest (part of a larger preserve), especially its narrow, almost faint hiking path. So different from wide, well-paved paths in some preserves. Workers were doing a controlled burn, so I wasn't able to explore the whole woods. It has extensive wetlands. I'm looking forward to returning in other seasons.

Wonderfully surprised by this small preserve I’ve driven past for years. Simple but well taken care of by some loving volunteers. I was saddened by some scoundrels last weekend who were stealing huge amounts of fungi from the woods. FYI taking fungi or plants or animals is illegal in Cook County Forest Preserves, especially if you’re trying to make a profit off it. Wish everyone cared about preserving and protecting the little nature we have.

Somme Woods is a beautiful, natural and peaceful place to go for a walk, run, or bike ride. Great place to get away from the city!
