The eponymous ‘Nonno’ purchased this building back in 1938 to sell fruit and veggies, since then the family has gone in two complementary directions, grandson Sergio Carlei is a winemaker while great-grandson David is the sommelier and restaurateur at Bar Nonno. The wines for serving and to take home are predominantly certified organic and biodynamic, many not available elsewhere as they make and import so many of them. The restaurant’s European menu embraces wine matching and doesn’t forget the vegans. With a capacity for 100 Bar Nonno is much bigger than it first appears; understatement is their style. Stay for dinner or call in for a bargain glass of Grand Cru Champagne.

Wonderful place, what a fantastic dinner! The staff was great, very helpful and polite. We had the set menu with the wine matching, it was a perfect combination. Also great value for the price!
Excellent wine and customer service! The staff were knowledgeable about their wines and generated a warm and welcoming atmosphere, well worth a visit.

We had the “date night” menu last night and it was amazing! 3 courses with rich delicious flavours and cooked perfectly!
Excellent frontside services and a wonderful view of the street through the windows. Very cozy vibe when sitting down with a view out on High Street and the tram stops. The parking nearby is a little sparse though but once you look around a little then you can find a spot.
Fantastic selections of Organic wines, I stopped by last week to check out the wine shop part, it is just great. Found my new fav wine shop
Had the red wine and arancini balls. Excellent time, stellar wine list, waiter was funny and personable. Will surely come back!
