I have been a student for over 2 years learning the art of sculpting at Melbourne Sculpture School. It’s wonderful to have the skills and expertise of a knowledgeable and professional sculptor to share and teach his skills. This is a rare find in Melbourne. Students are taught using traditional methods, beginning with an armature, progressing to model making, mould making and finally casting. We are encouraged to explore our own individual styles through clay using a life model with a carefully thought out and creative pose. I can’t wait for covid-19 restrictions to end so I can get back to class and continue on with my two sculptures.

I was on my second course with Mark when unfortunately COVID interrupted classes. Mark's school is just what I was looking for, he ensures you understand technique and have necessary structure as a base from which you can then create your sculpture in your own way. Mark has a good depth of experience to draw on and spends time working with each student through the class. Not sure what the previous reviewer means re surprise costs, Mark was very clear about costs prior to enrolling and has been very reasonable in accommodating all the disruptions caused by COVID lock downs. Its a really good school, highly recommend it.

Very disappointed with my experience at this studio. The classes were slow and poorly organised. Advice on sculpting was mostly contradictory and unhelpful. Expect it to take at least half a term before you even touch a piece of clay. Expect a minimum of 2 terms at least to make a model, and probably another 2 terms to make a mould to cast it. There were many hidden costs associated with the course, such as materials fee and weekly model fee (as high as 24 extra per week). Make sure you don’t pay in cash, so you have proof of payment, or the owner will claim you haven’t paid the fees and ask for them again.
