I’ve been visiting Acorn Lodge each week for the past two years to run singing and music and movement workshops with the residents. I love visiting this home, it really feels like a community and everyone is welcoming. Staff are always friendly and professional and the residents are wonderful. We always have lots of fun and there is a great sense of well-being among the residents- I very much look forward to spending time with them in their home.
Another visit to my mum.Sat in a beautiful room my mum is poorly but so comfortable. Everything is so perfect the bed and bedding , gentle music in the background calm confident caring staff all around. I couldn't wish for better I am so happy even though my mum is very poorly perfection in so many ways .Thanks Acorn Lodge. David Pickard with my mum Dorothy.
AVOID if you are considering putting your loved one here. The place may look nice, but some of the care staff here should not be in care. They are not kind with the residents and they shout at them or handle them roughly. Often smells of feces throughout, as residents are made to relieve themselves in their incontinence pants as carers can't be bothered to take them to the toilet regularly as it's too much trouble for them. Bruises visible on some of the residents. Not always given the meds they need, undue delays of their meds or treatments, so the resident suffers. Garden doors are almost always locked so residents barely get outside even when it's nice. Residents are basically made to sit in the main area, or stay in their rooms, they are discouraged from moving around freely. Very high turnover of staff which is indicative of a toxic or dysfunctional work environment. I also find it extremely odd that Sam Preston, who does the Jo Jingles for the residents, would leave a positive review just a week ago, when management are planning to get rid of her as apparently they don't like her, neither do the two activities staff, even though the residents like her, and they are also wanting to cut costs on such activities. So I am guessing there will be less money spent on entertainment for the residents. Also of concern that reviews date back two years, then nothing for two years (why?), then what looks like a few fake five star reviews over the past few weeks.
The warm welcome bowls you over the moment you walk through the doors the staff are smartly dressed polite and very friendly. All staff can advise and inform you of the running of the home who management are where to go and who to see, families are confident to have a parent or family member become a resident. The food served is of an excellent quality so much so the staff also eat there at a small fee and family members can join the residents for lunch or tea if they so wish, visiting hours are vast so many families have the freedom to visit when they want to or are available to. Entertainment is put on regularly in keeping with the eras of the residents staff join in and include the residents even those that maybe unable to visit the communal lounge. I would not hesitate to move a family member into acorn lodge as I know the staff always go that extra mile for the residents and they create a wonderful atmosphere. I used to work on reception and has been the cleanest nicest most friendly caring environment I've ever worked in. Extending my own family was my reason for leaving otherwise I'd have been happy to remain in employment there. I have made many friends there whom I still see and visit at the home occasionally, the standards are always to a high level and I always feel welcome and at ease when I'm there. Thank you for reading.
