Trails to the campsite were very enjoyable. Was not aware of the loop around the prairie and found that and the overlook just before I left. Will definitely be back, perhaps these are my new favorite trails in the Forest

Perfect to get access to the big loop around the water. Bring water and sun protection because once you're out of the woods, it's full sun.

The observation tower is totally beautiful...the prairie is so zen...sit on the deck of the observation tower in the swing and watch nature unfold

This was my first visit here! It will not be my last! The next time I come I will bring my bicycle and ride the 10.8 mile Loop around the Levee. Today we hiked to see the campsite and visited the viewing platform.

Good hiking trails, can see pines and palms combined, with butterflies flying around and an old teddybear under the tree as well.

The trail I took was 10 miles around the swamp. Much of that being on a berm that was boring. I went down the berm into a dry portion of the swamp. There was macadam that could easily have been a runway decades ago. Since the Navy has used portions of the forest since the 1940s to practice bombing, I can clearly imagine this area as a practice area for landing on an aircraft carrier (Field Carrier Landing Practice). They could use the Ocklawaha River to slightly increase the water level so the paved area was the only portion exposed. The trail was not exciting, but the wildlife was great. There were turkeys, deer, many gators, armadillos, snakes and birds of all makes and models. If you take this hike, please be careful. There are gators on both sides of the trail/road that is narrow. I spooked a few very large gators (it could be debated who spooked whom). There is a smaller, wooded trail but I didn't have time for that.

Need better signs for where the trail is. Also trails need to be fixed up.
