This small museum is well laid out. At present, COVID-19 restrictions have visitors walking one way, mostly, along a route that roughly mimics the chronology of the displays one encounters: geology and plate tectonics displays are first, followed by botanical fossils, invertebrate fossils, vertebrate fossils, prehistoric animals, and contemporary animals and plants. The third floor (second inside the museum) has displays of local natural history and comparative zoology; a second floor/mezzanine houses a library with many reading seats and a small restaurant. A gift shop and temporary displays are encountered before the exit.

This place was fantastic! The little Cafe downstairs has cute dino treats. There was a ton to see and learn. Very friendly staff and free parking.

Definitely worth the price of admission (about 500 yen for adults). Perfect for a couple hours on a rainy afternoon.

Amazing museum. My daughter and i enjoyed it very much. Perfect for kids who are interested in dinosaurs and ancient history. Also museum is in a very beautiful place near Hakone-Yumoto. I highly recommend it.

A small local museum with a surprising array of specimens. Had a lot of fun seeing all of their exhibitions, including the rotating gallery on the green pigeons. Only downside is to the park is there is hardly any English accommodations compared to some of the larger museums in Japan. It was still worth the visit and it was a fun place to relax out of the sun.
