The KO-KI-AN was left uncared for a long long time. In the early 1980s, a life insurance company acquired most of the site and built a training center with accommodation, while at the same time rebuilding the big gate and promenade. A large Jizo statue on the site was in a state of collapse before maintenance. It is a mystery and eerie what Mr.Yamagata put the Jizo in his KOKIAN. The current training facility is a modern building and has no concern to the original KOKIAN house. This new main building has large glass windows for a good view of the garden side, and the view design is good. In addition, the main building has been used to film TV drama starring Tomiyuki Kunihiro around 1985.

The entrance is at right side of the edge when you see north is top on map. There is no old house to see but we can enjoy garden.
日曜日のみ開放している古希庵 入口を入ると入場料として無人の箱がありました 一人100円、全額小田原市に寄付と記されてます 丁度、紅葉が美しい日でした 木漏れ日からの水面の反射が美しく本当に贅を尽くした庭園です 惜しいなと感じるのは企業保有なこと 市、県などの行政管理は出来なかったのかと 企業だから維持できているのか…… 時折見かけた年入職者という植樹が山縣有朋の 思い、理想と離れてないといいなぁと感じました
入り口は何気ない古風な門ですが庭の中に入って見ると想像していた庭園とは大間違い、素晴らしいですね！
明治40年に第3代、第９代総理大臣を務めた山縣有朋（やまがた ありとも）の別荘であると同時に彼が最期を迎えた地でもある。 山縣が数え年70歳の古稀を迎えたことから古稀庵と名付けられ、人生最期までを古稀庵で過ごした。山縣は築庭が趣味であり、京都の近代庭園として有名な無鄰庵（むりんあん）は、山縣が施主となり日本を代表する庭園デザイナー小川治兵衛にて作庭。小川治兵衛の新しい造園手法を引き出したのは山縣とも言われ、政治家にして明治中期以降の庭園様式の形成に多大な影響を及ぼしたとされる。 現在は、あいおいニッセイ同和損害保険の小田原研修所となっているが毎週日曜日に庭園が一般公開されている。

滝とせせらぎの音に心を洗われました 流水庭園ですね水源は 荻窪用水から山縣水源池国道1号線古稀庵 の経路 山縣水源池標高95m 古稀庵 標高35m 国道1号線の標高は古稀庵より低いのでサイホンの原理を応用しています 配管は6インチの鋳鉄だそうです。 6インチ管はその当時、日本では製造出来ないので、イギリスから輸入したそうです。 因みに私設の水道です。 荻窪用水は早川から取水です。場所は函嶺洞門に近い 山崎発電所早川取水ダムです。 時間の余裕&興味がある方は 取水ダム&荻窪用水に足を伸ばしくださいませ
