The Hippopotamus Steak Restaurant in Strasbourg is definitely worth trying. I went there with a friend on a Saturday evening without a reservation and they arranged a table for us. Service was very friendly and as our waitress sensed that we are not native french speakers, she talked to us in (good enough) english which was very nice. The prices are arguably okay for the quality that is put on your plate. The food was throughout the menu very good and high quality (oh my the dessert was heaven). I will go there again if I have the chance :)

Though it doesn't differ too much from what you can get in town in terms of quality and price - with the food being very good, but not exceptional - the place has a number of benefits that set it apart from the rest. First and foremost of these is that this is a child-friendly place. Whereas most other restaurants will frown on taking your children along - if not outright become rude and offended - Hippopotamus is made to accommodate children. Not only do they have balloons to hand out and a (digital) play corner, children who are old enough will also be supplied with a toy and activity to keep them occupied while waiting for the food to arrive. Even for (already hungry) adults the waiting is made more enjoyable by servings of home-baked crisps that await you when you arrive. Personnel is very child-friendly too, and considerate of the needs of children. Finally, the fact that Hippopotamus is located next to the highway makes it easily accessible for a quick dinner when on the road. Overall can highly recommend!

I really liked the settings and attitude of the staffs, very nice and welcoming. I ate the chicken with puree and source menu and it was AWESOME!

The restaurant was so expensive for the food they have and what we ordered was really terrible. The staff who works there is kind and friendly... but they need a lot of time to bring the meals.

I was very disappointed considering it's a steak house. We ordered 3 different types of meat, but all of them were chewy, no good taste, flavor or melting or even juicy
