Nice little 1000 year old gem, a witness of old iron age. Greeted by the 2 massive, impressive main towers and those big doors, you then step inside the left overs of the old village. Despite not taking any entry fee...the castle gets nicely restored. People volunteer, investing lots of research, love, passion and effort. 2 big displays provide all information about the fort and the castle developed out of the fort.

Beautiful little castle. Tea room. Book shop. Gift shop. Normally events are on all year. Check the website for updates.

Really enjoyed a nice short walk with the family. The castle had a good size car park that cost 2 per visit, this goes to hell maintain the upkeep of the castle. We would normal pop to the onsite cafe but due to covid it's closed so this cant happen. The kids really enjoy going up to the main building over the bridge and ponds. The only downside on this occasion was a large group of teens messing around on bikes and standing around screaming. This ruined the tranquility of the place and upset my youngest whos 4 as he didn't like the screaming as it worried him that something was wrong. Other than this the site is really nice great for a short walk and play after school. Will visit it again. I would recommend that people check the events calendar for the castle as in normal times they do full medieval re enactments during the year that are really good fun and normally free. Not to be missed for kids that like a good sword fight.

Lovely place to have a walk around. Not somewhere you go for long - 30 minutes and we had seen it all. Lovely castle entrance and the castle itself is free. 2 for car park. There is a tea room and plenty of ducks to feed. Would be a great place during the summer with a picnic and cake from the tea room.
