Cozy lodge made by using traditional building techniques. El Tio was very helpful and the breakfast was fresh and yum! A unique place where to stay. I'm definitively coming back!

We stayed three nights and four days, it is a quiet and peaceful place during the day. But as the locals told us there are wolfs in the mountains that come down to eat the chickens. So there are a lot of dogs, and they can get noisy at night if something does wander in. If you go for a walk don't be surprised if the German Shepherd named Max joins you. He is a great guard dog, needed since each family has dogs and not all are friendly. Max helped us a few times with random dogs. Only thing he ask for in return is a nice scratch behind the ear, and to play fetch with stones. There is a kitchen for use, and a shared bathroom. Each room has a double bed and cost 10 per person. Each room has a different wall painting. And one of the rooms is a hut with a living roof, but no electricity. All of the rest of the room have electricity. We enjoyed our stay so much it's back on the list to visit again.
Stayed in camping for 11days. I arrived in el tio by chance and soon found myself being a wonderful place! There are so many place to visit in the area and for that I was busy on doing some excursion during my stay but actually without going anywhere, the Kichwa life surrounded by natural blessings and sacred mountains is here in el tio. I'm sure you can't find a place like here to be able to be closer to their life. If there is another opportunity to visit area would be great if I can do volunteering here to learn how they live more. Thanks Tio, Tia and nice guests from all over the world for a peaceful stay. Nosvemos!
This place is perfect for a few days of chill close to nature. The tio is super lovely and always ready to help and talk. Highly recommend.
I stayed here a few years ago and helped set up an online presence to attract tourists to his home. He has spent years building a 'Campo' on some of his farmland, a bunkhouse for tourists to come and experience life with an indigenous family, in an indigenous community. The Cajas family are the warmest and most genuine people I have ever met and would be the highlight of anyone's trip to Ecuador or even South America. You won't just feel like a guest at a hostel, you'll be a part of the family and you'll make lifelong friends in the process.
A fantastic place to stay and feel at home. Almost 2 months here and loving it.
