Great bookstore with lots of character. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable! I spent hours just browsing and soaking in all the titles. Very competitive pricing on new and used books. Looking forward to my next visit!

3 hot, crowded rooms full of books. Interesting selection, but nothing is priced, and from what I witnessed with the woman ahead of me, negotiation is exhausting. Guy who runs it seems very knowledgeable but likes to chat too much and doesn't have a good sense of his foot traffic. After waiting 10 minutes to pay, only to be ignored as he walked away to talk about buying books from a guy who just walked in, I sadly put my books down and left.
My favourite used bookstore in Ottawa! Owner is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Great place for philosophy, history and classical books! Milo is also the cutest manager!
Scott has a great taste and an amazing collection. To top it all of, he is friendly and will gladly help you out in a very cunning way. The Store is the only one in Ottawa that gives a great student discount, but fear not, his prices are great from the go. There are a bunch of classics in hard cover amazing editions. Ps: the cat name is Milo and he is way to cute.
What a great evening! An armload of new-to-me books, with an interesting discussion of each as I browsed around. The term "encyclopedic" is often loosely thrown around, but I can't think of anything better to describe Scott's deep knowledge of the subject areas in that little shop. And how to stock and display so many subjects and SO many books! The other treat was to come home with an original painting by a local Indigenous artist, colourful and lively. Thank you Scott, for your complete involvement in Ottawa's communities.
Barely Bruised Books is a treasure trove, I find it very hard to stop by without picking up a couple of books; there is always a wide books on the shelves. Scott is very knowledgeable about the books and genres and does amazing outreach to the local community. I highly recommended checking the store out, you'll definitely learn something new chatting with Scott. Keep up the great work!
Even though this store didn't have what I was looking for I felt compelled to leave a review for excellent service. I called to ask the owner about a specific title, he was not at the store but he took the name of the book and texted me back the next day to let me know it was not available and other options for finding it. Great service, will definitely check here for future used book needs.
