We were pleasantly greeted as we entered the store. After our small purchases were made, we chatted with the shop owner about the effects of covid on his business. A pleasant chat about spots we'd visited over the last few days led to his recommendation about a nearby Opua kauri tree walk, which we did! Great service and great conversation. Thanks for a pleasant shopping experience during our visit to Paihia :)
I'm not the person who always complain, but this time I really dont understand... when I went there I ask to replace the battery for a Casio watch, they ask me if I live here or not (I dont know why, i only need to replace the battery), i said yes, they said 15 for the battery and to check for the waterproof is another 15... I was thinking let's do the 30, so I can contribute for the community. They call me later to ask if I open it by myself because the battery is upside down and is not working, I said NO, and I dont know why the battery is upside down because I havent touch it, but i think is their word against mine... They said next day, my watch is ready to pick up... when i arrive they asked me again if I live here or not... again I say yes, but the difference now is 40, instead of 30!! Like a normal customer I asked why 10 more? They said 30... they didnt even call me saying it will cost me more... The lady who was on that day, not her fault at all (I guess) she said, sorry, I dont understand the notes that are here but is not 30 is 40 now. As per them the battery is upside down, let's believe them... when I pay to change the battery 30... it doesnt matter if the battery is upside down, or not battery inside... is Just replace the battery!!! I paid, yes, but definitely I wont recommend to anyone to go there.... and I guess if you are Foreigner prepare your wallet for the extra Foreigner Fee. NOT HAPPY AT ALL and wont go back.

Fiona and Rex have been running Gold ‘n Gifts as long as we’ve been here, about twenty five years. From the start it was obvious that they were keen to give the customer not just what they wanted but exemplary service. Nothing was ever too much trouble and there was always a smile and happy face to greet you. Over the years they’ve become friends, and I have grown older, and the service has extended to delivery to the door. ‘Not a problem’ says Rex, and within hours it’s there. This is the rarest thing these days, and I do wish them only the best for their lovely little store and their future. Jo
