A wonderful, delightful cottage rented through AirBnB. The owner Ginny couldn't have been more kind and helpful and has an eye for detail and little touches. The Christmas tree was postcard perfect and the fresh branches of holly tied to the cottage rafters gave the place a delightfully old and pagan feel. Sixteenth century furniture (one incredibly Latin piece found and rescued from one of the barns at Painswick House) completed the feel, as did the little wood-burning stove, numerous candles and the latch-door bedrooms. Ginny left us mince-pies and a bottle of red to settle in and her family were close on hand to provide further baskets of wood and kindling. The cottage itself is on a farm owned by the wider family and the fields have a fine pond and a standing stone and border the Painswick stream and the view-filled Wysis way. Painswick itself is a short walk and packed with great restaurants like St Michaels and the Falcon. A short walk the other way is picturesque Sheepscombe and the fantastic Butchers Arms pub. Lots of wonderful Christmas memories as a result and great walking to the surround villages and valleys!
