AT vehicle trail that goes around field then back into some sparse woods around cold creek. Lots of birds to watch and there is a gazebo and a couple of places to use binoculars if you love birdwatching. People obviously do not practice picking up dog waste and just leave it on the trail so watch where you step. Very flat trail and easy to walk. Litter in the woods in a few spots.

This is a beautiful park near Paint Rock, Alabama. It is a very nice walking trail and natural area. Directions: From the intersection of US Hwy 72 and AL Hwy 65 between the towns of Gurley and Paint Rock, AL, drive 0.3 mile to the Roy B. Whitaker Paint Rock River Preserve on the north (left) side of the road. Turn north (left), at the preserve sign, and carefully cross the railroad tracks to the parking area.

This was a great place to walk, but it looks like they haven't mowed the path all summer. Of you like walking through knee to waist high weeds this is now your place.

Not much of a hike on the best day. Really flat with not much scenery. Most of the "trail" is just a tractor path through a field. The day we went was awful. It had not rained for several days, but the trail was a quagmire. Stepping through half frozen, ankle deep puddles for miles was not fun. I bet the snakes and mosquitoes are awful in the summer as well.

Very beautiful and peaceful even with the water running high. Thank you Nature Conservancy!!
