This is an intrinsic part of Paisley history set in the middle of a busy junction in the blandest area of the town it's the burial place of the almost certainly innocent Paisley witches, who were actually all from Erskine, and Erskine can take them back. Accused by an 11 year old and tried by their ' betters ' this is probably Paisleys darkest day and the perpetrators of this atrocity were cursed by the victims . Indeed this plaque is not to commerate them but the horseshoe is meant to stop their spirits escaping and carrying out the curse. Recent bad times for Paisley were attributed to the removal of the Horseshoe and certainly things for the town have improved since its return. I would expect some sort of memorable plaque could be erected at this crossroads, something touristy,
like
New shiny bronze replacement by Alexander Stoddart after the old one got nicked. Pretty sure it's been nicked again.
It's a wee pseudo roundabout in the middle of a traffic light junction
The locals are friendly and amused by tourists. Crosswalk stops traffic in all directions so you can photograph the plaque.
