A fine monument and tribute to Sir Peter Coats, an industrialist, who alongside his brother Thomas, were major benefactors of Paisley. He donated a Free Library and the Paisley Museum and Art Galleries during his lifetime.

Right beside his more illustrious brother is this statue of Sir Peter Coats, these magnates were the Bill Gates of their time. Paisley was always a town of weavers but they arrived on the opportunity to make cheap strong thread, this transformed the town into a real industrial power. Don't forget that these Paisley buddies spent a lot of their lucre in Paisley, many of the important buildings are financed by them. The company they founded became worldwide indeed turnover last year was over 5 billion but their connection with Paisley is tenuous at most, I wonder what the Coats brothers would make of that?
