This plaque commemorates an important legal case in British history, where May Donoghue found a snail in her ginger beer at the now defunct Welmeadow Cafe which stood at this site. The case concerning the laws of negligence reached the House of Lords and is the foundation of millions of subsequent cases. The plaque has a neighbouring statue of Ms Donoghue just across the road.
