600 ton The Alexander Column (Russian: Алекса́ндровская коло́нна, Aleksandrovskaya kolonna) also known as Alexandrian Column (Russian: Александри́йская коло́нна, Aleksandriyskaya kolonna), is the focal point of Palace Square in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The monument was raised after the Russian victory in the war with Napoleon's France. The column is named for Emperor Alexander I of Russia, who reigned from 1801–25.

It is an amazing plaza known for its gigantic and beautiful buildings. Its the power centre of Saint Petersburg and one should definitely visit this place when visiting the city. Its also the biggest and one of the most beautiful museums of the world. I enjoyed my day in the city a lot.

The place is great and historic, but there are people who do not preserve the environment and hygiene.

Famous Palace square where history of Russian empire was written. Unlike the Moscow's Red Square, St. Petersburg's Palace Square is opened at the night, there are no limitless police forces or fences like during was time. It feels way friendly and relax.

On my first day in Saint Petersburg, I was just rambling around Nevsky avenue and walked about 1.5 km to the place square without realizing that it is popular landmark. For a moment, it felt it is a touristy spot, so checked on google and it happened to be Palace Square right opposite to the State Hermitage Museum. I was stunned to see the massiveness of the whole square. You will find a lot of street musicians out there. Please do not forget to capture panorama shots of the square. It is worth watching.
