The Kalpathy Viswanatha Swamy Temple in other words known as Kundambalam is a most famous temple in Palakad Town.Kalpathy Car Festival ( Ratholsavam) which is celebrated during the month of November every year lasts for about a week.This temple is situated within the jurisdiction of Palakad Town North police Station and the police officers prepare a bundobust scheme for providing protection for the smooth and safe conduct of the various functions organised in connection with the festival.A police out post is opened in the nearby school and the police officers are allotted round the clock duty to prevent theft and other disorderly behaviors since outside criminals used to visit the place.On the last day of the festival the " Ratham" is pulled manually by the devotees through the streets and finally reach back the temple.The famous Kalpathy river flows adjacent to the temple and the devotees take bath here before offering prayers.Snatching of gold chains and pick pocketing used to happen during the peak hours and the police have to be on their toes to nabb these criminals.It has been a wonderful experience to attend duty here since there used to be music concerts like " Nadhaswaram " " Kathakali " etc during night.
