Pandua Bari Mosque is a long, low building established in 1300 AD. This masjid is a specimen of the typical brick style of Bengal. The building has dimension of 7041 m by 12.8 m. It has three aisles, with 21 door openings in front and three on the side. The roof has 63 small domes over brick arches resting on stone pillars that are influenced by Hindu architecture. Furthermore, the mosque also has a canopied platform. Historically, there is no evidence of the existence of king Pandu, but there were many minor Hindu kings in the Saptagram-Pandua area. Within a century of Bakhtiyar Khilji’s conquest, the Muslim thrust into the southern parts of the Rarh region, that included present-day Hooghy district, started from the end of the 13th century to the 14th century. It was during the rule of the Balban sultans in Delhi (1286-1328) that the efforts were made to establish Islam, not only by capturing the thrones and political power, but also establish Islam socially. Their modus operandi was “to enter the territory of the Hindu rajas as squatters on some prtext or other. Then they would bring down the regular army of the Muslim State upon these infidel kings to punish them for infringing the rights of Mussalmans.”

Please avoid visiting before the upcoming election (2021). This place has been temporarily closed by authorities to avoid any possible communal disturbances. I am reviewing as per of my exp. on Feb. 14, 2021 Ps. No definite information on whether it will be opened for visit even after election.

It is an old monument in Pandua, people say that it was a Temple like structure where the ancient Maharajas of that particular city were to worship. Also a Winter season Fun Fair is settled every year for people there with loads of amusement rides, stalls with food and other eatables, he famous Chenna Jalebi which is a little bit different from other place and Shakar kandi type long sweets with peanuts. People from all over Hooghly district come to this place in this fair. I would recommend you all to visit once. But the fun fair is not here anymore but near to the Pandua area.
