The main attraction of Pandua is the Pandua Minar and the Baais Darwaja Masjid or Bari Masjid. In 1340, the king of Pundooah, Panduraja was defeated by Shah Suffiuddin, the sultan of Delhi. Suffiuddin built this tower as a mark of the triumph over his Hindu counterpart. The structure later served as Ajan Minar of Bais Darwaza Masjid, which is also called Bari Masjid (big mosque).Visible from far, it looks upon a vast area that was famous for its prosperity in its heydays. The most prominent and the only attraction in the Pundooah of Hooghly are a five-storied minar (tower) and the ruins of an ancient mosque. The huge tower is around 125 ft in height. The height was reduced by few feets during an earthquake in the 19th century. At present both the Mosque and the Minar are under Archeological Survey of India. The entrance to the Minar is under lock and key.Outside the Pundooah station, you will find rickshaws waiting to take you to the minar. The roads are congested.
