The Fair Coffee and Sumak Kawsay Alliance is a cooperative network of enterprises, researchers and coffee producers to promote Fair Trade and Sumak Kawsay in Colombia. The High Quality (+87 points) Soft Coffee Trademark of the Alliance is called Dulce Milagros or Sweet Miracles in english, for three main reasons: The First one is because our coffee is mainly produced by Nariño Women's based Cooperative Network called Red de Mujeres Caficultoras del Norte, of which several of its members are named Milagros. The second one, corresponds to the coffee production cycle which is considered as a miracle in itself gifted to us by Mother Nature. And the third reason, is because sweetness is one of the main charactersistics of Nariño's coffee. The Alliance promotes Sumak Kawsay values because the main goal of the coffee production and commercialization is to create alternative development communities, whose social and economic relations are no longer articulated by the traditional capitalist market mechanisms of production but by the parameters of Sumak Kawsay itself. We thereby foster development through three main Sumak Kawsay pilars: Mother Nature or Pachamama, The Human Being and The Community itself. The final goal is to attain a new way of life by recovering our ancestral and own knowledge, as Boaventura de Soussa Santos pointed out, based on our paradigm of alternative development for a good life where the three pilars are in harmony. The Founders and current members of the Alliance are: - Red de Mujeres Caficultoras del Norte. - Guillermo Torres: Head of Ecomindala S.A.S - Alvaro Obando: Head of the Local Development Agency of Nariño, ADEL - Servio Caicedo Ph.D: Head of the Sumak Kawsay Research Project: Oriente de Cundinamarca y Departamento de Nariño of the San Buenaventura Univeristy - David Caicedo: Leader of the Sumak Kawsay Research Centre and Co-Founder of the Sumak Kawsay Research group of the Pontifical Javeriana University.
