Wonderful Historic Scotland site. Beautiful scenery. Love this castle. No public toilet on site.
I’ve visited many castles, palaces and manor houses however Crichton Castle took my breath away. The architecture, design and the location of the property is incredible. A stunning place to visit!
Crichton castle is opposite my uncles old farm "Hag Brae" on the other side of the river. Hag Brae got its name because there is an ancient stump in the field where a witch was burned many years ago. The story has it that the then Laird of Crichton Castle ordered that she be burned across the river so that he could not hear or smell the incident. In the late 1940's and early 50's we used to wander over to the castle as kids and explore it. It was never closed in those days.
Even though the inside of the castle is closed for winter it's still a beautiful place to visit. We went on New Years Day and it was so good to just stop and listen to.... nothing. Total silence which is so hard to find these days! Well worth the 5 minutes walk from the small car park up to the castle - highly recommended
Easy to walk around, nice views. A little slippy when wet, so watch your step, but a cool trip. Quite small though, you probably wouldn't spend more that 30-45 minutes here.
Beautiful place. Interesting castle. The walk down behind the castle is fantastic
Beautiful castle with beautiful scenery. Unfortunately it looks like it's been closed for some time. Such a pity. Need to update the website to let people know its closed or when it will be open. Historic Scotland membership wasted
