As first-time puppy owners, we knew we had a lot to learn. We had contacted Melita before we even brought our Portuguese Water Dog home and she helped us from the beginning with everything from crate placement/training to house training to everyday behaviors. We completed her private in-home 6 week puppy course in November/December and she was very respectful of masking and social distancing while training our puppy. She is patient, kind, and a wonderful trainer. After the six week program, we had a new behavior that she came back to hep us modify and her ideas have been successful. We feel that Melita is there for us whenever we have questions and we will continue to use her as our puppy grows. We will soon start her upcoming group puppy class, Beyond Basics. We highly recommend Melita's training programs!

Awesome!. Melita was very insightful in working with our puppy (and us :-) to acclimate him into our household. This was our second dog, so the insight into the psychology of pack mentality and how dogs learn was enlightening. Her training incorporated real world scenarios in her barn program and actual field trips around town and in stores. She is a great trainer and a tremendous value for the money. Highly recommend!
Melita from Promising Pups is the best! She was a perfect fit for our energetic lab and our puppy novice family. She is practical, knowledgeable and patient, and really goes the extra mile to help with the specific personality and training needs of each puppy. She is always responsive and genuinely cares about your dog. I recommend her without reservation.
Melita is a compassionate, energetic and clearly invested in helping train dogs to become loving companions. She made it a priority to include and work with our family throughout the process which was enormously helpful! She made the lessons fun for our puppy and it showed in her better behaviors. We strongly recommend her- she is an amazing trainer!!
Where do I start? I called Melita in a panic when I discovered my rescue dog was aggressively reacting to visitors in the home, Melita came to my house THAT DAY to help. Since then she has continued to go above and beyond in helping us, from bringing her own dog over to dog test our dog, to answering questions and concerns that I have between sessions, she's been a huge support for us and very generous with her time and knowledge... I'd recommend her to anyone looking for help with their dog. A lot of dog trainers talk and talk without really listening to the client, Melita actually listens, takes her time assessing, and then provides her honest feedback and recommendations. Thank you Melita!
My husband and I had no idea what we were getting into when we got a rambunctious puppy at the start of the quarantine. We had a few hard weeks on our own before we called Melita and signed up for her Basic Puppy Course. After the first session we began to feel like we were able to communicate with our new puppy, and by the end of our classes, we had a trained dog that we were extremely bonded to. Because of Covid, our sessions were socially distanced and conducted in our backyard which helped our dog learn to take commands while distracted. We're now taking group classes with Melita and her other clients to help with more advanced training.
We are so happy we had Melita work with our pup as soon as we adopted him. In training sessions at home and in her barn, she helped us deal with real life situations and bring out his potential as a good, loving family member.
Melita is a fantastic trainer. She has a fun, high-energy style and a positive, pragmatic training approach; she also is particularly attuned to the dog’s needs and is always kind in her interactions. Melita customizes her instruction to your dog and to each individual person in your family, including kids. She makes the training process enjoyable for everyone and provides clear instruction, constructive feedback, and very well organized printed materials in case you have questions between sessions or to reference later. Melita also ensures you and your dog are prepared for real-life situations (crowds, walks, interacting with other dogs, going into stores), is broadly knowledgeable and evidence-based in her methods, and is very flexible with scheduling. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for assistance training their dog.
