This was our first stay at Lowthwaite B&B and it will most definitely not be our last. Jim and his wife were superb hosts, friendly, welcoming, warm and knowledgeable. We stayed in the Garden Room with its own patio and garden outlook, we had so many feathered friends calling on us which was quite simply, magical! Sadly we didn't make the acquaintance of the local red squirrel but fellow guests were lucky enough to see him. Our accommodation was lovely, tasteful, exceptionally clean and very comfortable, as was the dining area. The breakfasts we enjoyed were delicious, hearty and plentiful. And the unexpected home baked treats were a very generous addition. Jim's wife, is without doubt a domestic goddess, the homemade Bircher muesli was divine as was the home baked bread, pastries and jams. The B&B is quite remote but its location offered peace and quiet, but was still well situated for getting out and exploring the beautiful Cumbrian landscapes and towns. Jim made a number of suggestions of places to visit, and those we did were excellent. We were very sorry to leave the charms and warm hospitality of Lowthwaite B&B but we very much look forward to going back ️

It was an exceptional stay! Big thanks to Jim and his family for such a warm atmosphere and highest standards of service! We loved absolutely everything: crystal clean and cosy room with fantastic decor and panoramic mountain view, delicious breakfasts and takeaway lunch packs (muffins was yummy), and what's the location (!) - absolute solitude and natural beauty spot (our daughter loves the bunnies around the area). The important thing was that all government regulations and advices due to covid pandemic is implemented and followed so we feel very safe and protected during the stay. If you want to have a great time on the Lakes with no regret this is the place! Very friendly and lovely family! Thank you guys, and see you next time!
Fantastic B&B, very welcoming and friendly hosts. Food was very good and we loved the optional packed lunch for our days out. Had a great time exploring the local area.
Excellent B&B, stayed in Blencathra which was over 2 levels. Nice bath and shower. Excellent breakfast. Picturesque location.
Beautiful and peaceful B&B to stay at. The hosts Tine and Jim are amazing and can't do enough for you to make your stay perfect. The rooms are so comfy and the breakfasts a treat too. Give them a try if you want a little relaxation and tranquility.
Just enjoyed 2 lovely nights at this most welcoming B and B. Perfect location for exploring Ullswater and surrounding areas. Hosts, friendly and knowledgeable. Always onto a winner when there are daily fresh made muffins, and staying in a hay loft room meant waking to a picture perfect view. Our bedroom had a large double, plus single perfect for a teenage child, and a large bathroom too. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
First you are advised to make sure you know where Lowthwaite B&B is on the map as it is way up on the side of Little Mell Fell on a single track road. On arrival we were greeted by Jim and shown around the breakfast room and our bedroom. The rooms are tastefully decorated and there is a wealth of Zanzibar dhow timbers - be sure to ask Jim more about this! The Garden room was spotless. It has a double bed, tea & coffee making facilities including a cafetiere PLUS two home made muffins by Tine (Jim's Danish wife). The room has a massive bath and looks out onto the garden and comes with an outside table and chairs to watch the birds feeding - woodpecker included! Jim advised us on where to have dinner and his recommendation - The Troutbeck Inn, turned out to be excellent. Sleeping at Lowthwaite was brilliant; it's so quiet and nothing to disturb you. Breakfast choices had been made the evening before. The starter includes an array of cereals, yoghurt and fruit salad (check out the photograph!). We chose the full English. Awesome! 2 eggs, 2 dry cured bacon, local sausage, fresh tomatoes and mushrooms. And help yourself to as much toast as you want to make. May I suggest you ask for advice about the local area as Jim is extremely knowledgeable. His advised route for us on our return journey was delightful and most beautiful. What more can I say? Should we be back in the area we plan to come again and that is the best recommendation anyone can give. Thanks Jim and Tine for a wonderful overnight stay and lovely Lake District welcome.
