Pooley Bridge was a mid-18th century bridge over the River Eamont at the northern end of Ullswater. It was originally completed in 1764 but was unfortunately washed away by floodwaters on 8th December 2015. A temporary replacement bridge was installed by 20 March 2016 with a permanent new stainless steel bridge opening for traffic on Friday 23 October 2020. The new steel bridge was designed as a single span structure to avoid the need for piers in the river, thereby reducing future flood risk by making the steel structure more flood resilient.

When I visited Pooley Bridge it was after a long drive for a place to stretch my legs, now I understand the reason for the new bridge after the dreadful floods that destroyed the old stone Bridge, but what Is being built to replace it seems out of place for the lake district, even the fake stone ends look like the wrong colour. Pooley Bridge was a place that was recommended to me to visit, I can't say I will be doing the same.

An old romantic England resort at its best. Really miss the original stone bridge.
