I've been a resident for 5 years and can confidently say, one side is better than the other. The West wing above the office is a peaceful place but the main elevator is always busy. The East wing has random fire alarms at 2 am because the system is tied into that of the Giant grocery store below. This causes the alarm to sound if someone smokes in the parking garage below or sneezes. Lastly, the park with the fountains used to be family friendly, but since the geniuses put ash trays everywhere; the smokers took it as an invitation to completely take over. Now you have the pleasure of smelling weed, cigarette, and cigar smoke. Thanks B.M. Smith!!

Getting ready to permanently move out of the area and generally do not write reviews but we have enjoyed ourselves and been treated fairly so here goes. First, my wife and I have lived at Penrose Square Apartments for 2.5 years. Our unit was an inside corner unit with a nice balcony. We really enjoyed the balcony catching the morning sun and comfortable in the afternoons during the warmer months. Once in a great while you here some noise but overall quiet. With Covid19 and additional people here during the day negligible increase but overall quiet. Prior to moving here in 2018, I did read about the fire alarm going off and it did concern us. Those reviews were correct and many times over the first year it sounded off usually around 2am. However, right now I cannot remember the last time it went off, it has been that long. So, I believe that minor inconvenient is now finally behind them. This is the reason for 4/5 starts, but if we were staying longer likely by our 3 year anniversary would change to 5/5 stars. The office staff is fantastic! They are pleasant and very friendly. Prior to Covid, we had social gatherings and the weekend summer movies outside gave a small town feel. A key selling point for us is the location. Within walking distance of many restaurants and a short bus trip to Pentagon City. We needed to use maintenance a few times for a clogged drain, microwave door repair short term fix then with an eventual new microwave, light bulb replacement. Maintenance service was very prompt and courteous. I highly recommend that if you are moving to the area or a change in apartments that you at least give PenroseSquare a look. One last thing, having the Giant grocery store downstairs is true convenience. They also seem to look the other way when you use their carts for other purchases (ie moving items from garage to apartment) of course promptly returning them.

I waited a few months to review the building, to better soak it in. COVID19 pandemic unfortunately has prevented me from using many of the amenities and features of the building. Overall it is a fairly good property, very secure and maintained well. My only issue is the noise. You can hear EVERYTHING.. EVERYTHING. I hear word for word my neighbors TV through the walls, which seems to be worse in the bedroom. Neighbors two floors up blast their TV loudly with the door open, and it bounces acoustically around in my corner. Due to the transient nature - meaning large portion military - people come and go and it seems some of the louder people have left. The staff in the office were really good about responding earlier in the pandemic, but I think may have been worn down by the number of complaints. But like I said its a very nice building for being in south Arlington and the restaurants and grocery store downstairs are convenient. Oh! I almost forgot.. the elevators specifically number 7 goes down a lot.. which thankfully I am on a low floor. But, again, it is a nice property for south Arlington.

My wife and I moved into the complex this past summer, and the staff has been an absolute delight from the start. The amenities are nice and accessible, and they are well maintained. Convenience and location of the apartments are a big plus with the ease of having plenty of restaurants nearby and a grocery store in the building.
