Saw a programme about this temple on TV. wanted to visit it for long time. Was lucky to visit the temple in this visit. Wonderful temple. Temple faces east, has a small rajagopuram but it is not at the enterance to the temple. Kodimaram present. Temple has a lake in the front but it is not that properly maintained. The first thing that you notice is the snake statue in stones all over this temple. Kind of parihara sthalam for people having naga dhosam. Though the temple and the sanctum sanctorum were open, we were sad that the priest was not there. Had good darshan, of the lord and ambal. While coming out the locals showed us the spiral coconut tree which is inside the temple compound.
This Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the name of NagaNathar(Lord for snakes). When I reached, it's evening 6.30pm and Temple is so quiet... During the time there was a song playing in the speaker who rote those about Lord Shiva. It was so beautiful... The time, quite place, beautiful Lord Shiva song, shadow lights.... All these combined is wonderful feeling!. Recommend to visit once... If you are lucky spend some time in the evening!
Legend has it that Raaghu arranged marriage for Lord Shiva and Parvathi in this temple. So many people come here and pray for their marriage.. Many snake statues are placed in this temple
A quiet and peaceful temple....

Temple for special poojas Three archanas are offered, first to Naga, second to Lord Shiva, Third to Amma Old temple Government could maintain the premises better
Very old temple said to be built by pandhya king swetha kedhu. In the small pond before Naganathar (Siva) there it is said to be u can hear the mirudangam sound, if the water level matches the level of Trident\u200b engraved in side wall. This can be only heard if that scenario occurs during Meena lagnam of panguni (Tamil month),if not we we won't hear it inspite of water level matches tridend level. This lord is believed to be prayed by Nagarajan, Brahma ,Indra, Surya. During abisekam milk is said to be will trun blue on Naganathar. People praying for child, installing nagar statue in Temple premises once their prayers are fulfilled. People are doing poojas for sarpha dooshas too. For visitors : If you want to install Nagar statue do get it inside temple , the guys who took contract from gov for the same won't allow statues from outside. Don't buy the same in shops outside. Like any other parihara stalam , priests in this temple are not an exception i.e money matters. Do go and darshan Naganathar and get his blessings. In my opinion the I don't know how effective these pariharrams are. Seek HIS blessings that is more then enough.
