Interesting overview of the history of port and the Douro region. Well presented space. Loved the complimentary glass of port in the wine bar at the end, with views over the river and steep hillside vineyards.
Beautiful museum. With the Douro and Porto wine history. Very explaining also for the youngers. With two floors you can see many bottles of Porto wine and also you can smell some spices used in the wine. After the visit you can taste a Porto Tawny 10 years.
This is not a big museum, but we really enjoyed our visit. The building has been beautifully renovated and is on several levels. There are not a huge amount of exhibits but everything is in English as well as Portuguese. There are lots of little video screens throughout which really paint the picture of the local industry, including the building and sailing of rabelos which carried the wine to mmmn Porto before the advent of the railway. Fascinating story and we found the staff very friendly and helpful. 6.00 per person entry and includes a nice glass of Port at the end
I really enjoyed visiting this place. It is on the main street of the town, it should not be difficult to spot it but you nees to get the stairs to go upstairs to the entrance. The staff is really lovely and ready to help with any info you might ask... the permanent exhibition is very interesting in particular if you like all what is related to the wine production process and history. The ticket includes port wine testing... which on its own almost cover the value of the ticket. Really lovely experience.
It was very informative about the manufacture of Port wine. The trip up the Douro River to the museum was very good accompanied by beautiful countryside.
Excellent view of Douro region history, mainly on Port wine tradition.
Well designed and modern museum with bi-lingual signage (Portuguese / English) throughout. For adults admission includes a chance to feel connected to the portwine sample glass.
