"There is absolutley no reason to go to NYC or Hopkins when one of the people that pioneered this procedure is in your back yard..." That is what a friend told me when I asked him for surgeons to go to.. When diagnosed throat cancer in August 2016 that had taken over 1 tonsil and spread up to my lymph nodes to form a lump visble from the outside, I was devastated. Doing my home work and interviewing surgeons became my job for 2 weeks. I will tell you, start here with Dr. Newman. He is a great surgeon. He was one of the original TOHRS surgeons in the country. But there other great surgeons right here in Philadelphia to choose from. I choose him for his skill, bedside manner (he's just a good guy with a good sense of humor), and his team. When I tell you everything he and his team laid out for me during my 1st interview is exactly how it happened I mean everything. There were NO suprises. Everyone from the office staff, to OR to nursing staff in the hospital, to Radiation (Dr. Geiger) and Onclology (Dr. Hartner) was absolutely great and their level of communication with each other regarding my case was exceptional. Ithe helps that he does most of his cases from Pennsylvania Hospital also. I have a lot of experience here with family and I like it because it really is a University Hospital with a community hospital culture. Matt Senior
