My Story: I called Pleasant Valley Healthcare & Rehabilitaiton Center to ask for help for my brother. I was greeted on the phone by a most compassionate and kindhearted sounding person who patiently listened as I cried telling him my brother's story. I explained how urgent it was that my brother was moved to another facility immediately. In short, my brother had to go to the emergency room from the facility he had been living in for years. The doctors in the ER told me he suffered from malnutrition, he couldn't walk, was on oxygen, could barely breath/talk, was not urinating (bladder was swelled needed catheter), wasn't eating, needed diapers and more. My brother is 58 years old. Shane is the kind person I spoke of earlier on the phone and he knew time was of the essence- that another facility needed to be in place before my brother was released from the hospital. Pleasant Valley had the resources, the leadership, high quality staffing (my brother's physical and emotional needs are being addressed), empathy and compassion, high standards (very clean), exceptional quality of food, respect and communication. After less than a month of being at Pleasant Valley my brother was no longer in a wheelchair. He could walk and talk, no oxygen needed. He no longer needed a diaper. He was eating and, still, really likes the food. I am so grateful to the Staff (ALL of you have made a difference in Ron's life!) at Pleasant Valley Healthcare & Rehabilitation for literally restoring the quality of my brother's life. I look forward to many amazing years ahead. My brother has suffered from paranoid schizophrenia most of his life. I am his sister, one year younger, and have been my brother's legal guardian for the past seven years. My brother is a remarkable man who continues to survive the devastation of his mental disorder and the impact of the long-term health facilities that do not care about people like him. He is in a safe place now. His name is Ron and he is my brother.
