I used Pete Smith and A P S Home Improvement for a house refurbishment that ended up with me taking him to Plymouth County Court over an ensuing argument about the quality of his work, the work he was paid to do and the state he left the house in. I won the case, obtained a County Court Judgment against Mr Smith and he was ordered to pay 525 Compensation plus court costs. It was judged he did not carry out the job with reasonable care and skill, to a satisfactory quality, in accordance with the Consumer Act 2015. I have added a few photo's out of around 30 that I used as evidence to back to my claim. In my opinion, this man thinks he is above everyone and will do what he wants, not what you want. He told me he has has a history of people 'not paying him'/ 'owning him money' and it was always their fault.......I now know it's because he doesn't do the work as specified in the original agreements, he does the 'easy way', using the excuse there is a problem and he has to change the work specification after he has started. I would not pay him any money upfront, not even a small deposit and get everything in writing before he starts. Do not pay him any money until you have been over the job with a fine tooth comb, this includes the correct amount of screws in hinges as he even thinks he knows better than manufacturers and tries to save time by not putting all the screws in. To also prove his slovenly nature and attitude, he was ordered to pay the money by 16:00 on the 2nd of August...........the money was not in my account at that time, he was late paying.
