I wouldn't give a bike to a mate for free in the state these bikes are hired out in. The bike we hired was provided with the rear brake stuck to the wheel, which a basic five second examination would have found (as I did when I looked at it). The owner fixed it when it was pointed out - but if you (understandably) don't know how to check bicycle brakes, you're struggling along on a painfully slow bike for the low price of 26. Sadly I didn't test all of the gears, so I only discovered when out on the path that all the gears skip because the cassette and chainring were both ancient artefacts worn smooth and not replaced. On mentioning this to the owner on our return, he said \that's because it's late in the year\. That implies these bikes (used all the time by random people) are serviced once a year at best - you've been warned. Go early in the year to minimise the chance of your chain snapping ten miles from Plymouth. The seatpost (the bit with the saddle) was badly set up and I had to borrow the owner's Allen keys to sort it out myself. When we returned the owner was having a loud argument with his mobile phone provider, which I'm sure the other customers we saw waiting to talk to him appreciated. Sexist jokes about women drivers as well, very charming - my girlfriend particularly appreciated this aspect. More general points on location: - easily accessible by bus - nearby public toilets - nearby McDonald's if you give up on the bike thing

Family ride out on the 8 speed hub geared hybrids. Locks and helmets provided. Lovely people, great easy to ride bikes and the Plym Valley Sustans Trail 27 is both scenic and well surfaced. Great day out.

We hired two adult bikes, one with a tandem and one with a trailer. Booking was easy and quick, made ready when we got there and the bikes and equipment were good quality. Free helmet hire too which was helpful. They clearly know about bikes. Good service and good value!
