We are a husband and wife team who creates small and medium-sized gardens, courtyard retreats and potted landscapes that can include art, ornaments and imposing rock features, and also offer small garden makeovers. We create organic shapes that are suggestive of natural forms. With nature for inspiration, we follow the principle of balanced asymmetry. The result is a calm and relaxing place. Your garden can be sweetly scented or spicily aromatic, or it can be a small herb paradise, in a setting that is luscious or minimalist, an Eastern retreat or a rock landscape. As a backdrop to the planting, we may add colour by painting garden walls. Evocative trompe l'oeil can equally complement and enhance the design. We can also bring grandeur to small outdoor spaces with exuberant planters, sizeable rocks, or larger-than-life sculptures that add atmosphere to the surroundings. And if you need something really petite, we can install a little oasis for you in a container crowned, perhaps, with a beautiful dwarf tree and a rock at its feet. Or we can cut out a section in a paved or decked area for the same purpose. The makeover service consists of tidying up and pruning back the garden, relocating and removing some plants and planting new ones, rearranging borders, prettying up and other relevant work. We love pampering a garden and good plant knowledge enables us to make the most of the plants already there. We will select the plants and generally do the planting ourselves; source high-quality, handmade furnishings and features; work with expert contractors and plant nurseries; and where applicable 'juggle' with large rocks until they are just right (well, the contractors will handle them under our direction). Where possible, we avoid using concrete and cement, whose manufacture is very polluting, favouring instead dry laying.
