Friendly staff, beautiful place. The gardens are lovely. They are separated into sections, floral garden with a river running in front of it, and vegetables/working garden. The path in the garden can be small and narrow. Plenty of warnings signposted about uneven steps. It's great with children, as they feel as if they are in a maze. A few seats for peaceful picnics or read a book there. The garden itself isn't vast, you would probably spend a few minutes going through all the sections of the garden. However, you can tell that whoever looked after the plants really know what they are doing. The flowers thrive, plenty different bulbs that I've never seen before. The vegetable garden looks as if it would yield good produce. Such peaceful place. Tranquil and good to rest the mind. This is just the garden. The house has thatched roofing, looks great from outside. They also have a shop selling nice national trust quality goods. Visiting the the shop is free and you could get a glimpse of the garden on the way to the shops.

Small but very interesting. Lovely garden and a cottage with a history dating back as early as the 1300s.

Wow! Found this amazing gem while spending time at Birling Gap. The history of this place is fantastic, the knowledge and helpfulness of the volunteers is brilliant! The place is quite small so you will only need about an hour or maybe 2 to look around. Found the carved oak leaf being the inspiration for the NT logo particularly inspiring!

This place is an absolute gem. This is the first property the National Trust ever bought, and it contains an engraving that may have inspired their oak leaf logo. There's something really special about visiting a place that's seen c.700 years of history, and that's just the feeling you get at the Clergy House. The gardens are fantastic, with wonderful smells like mint, rosemary and lavender to enjoy.
