Haven't been to this pub since the 1980s!!! Thought about having lunch here today, and wasn't disappointed. Had the Sussex Smokie which was very good, tasty and properly cooked. Another with me had the steak, mushroom and ale pie which was also very good, and the meat was tender. Portions are fairly large. Inside the pub it is very pleasant and nicely spaced out. Staff are great, friendly and attentive.

Really good management of social distancing. Efficient, friendly waiter. Food to table with minimal waiting time. No hassle while eating our meal. AMAZING Sunday lunch. We had a roast beef and a bit and apricot roast. Both super flavoursome. Lots of veg. Sumptuous pudding and cheese board. Free parking on site. Good choice of drinks. Absolute gem of a place. Highly recommended

Food was ok, definitely could have been better. Sunday roast, beef was well done not rare as advertised. Chicken didn't taste of anything and food not hot enough. Good, friendly service. I do feel staff should make it clear that service is automatically added to the bill especially if service is left in cash.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST READING REVIEWS LOW TO HIGH FIRST BEFORE BOOKING HERE. I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINED OF SIMILAR COLD FOOD AND GENERAL POOR QUALITY. Booked an indoor table but on arrival were given an outside table. After requesting to come indoors due to being cold outside we were made to feel like a pain. When the food did eventually turn up it was cold and of poor quality. I would not recommend this place and will just stick to going to the Green Man Ringmer as usual as its better quality at a cheaper price and you get twice the amount. Definitely won't be returning to The Barley Mow. I would just like to add that as a professional Carpenter, the outside seating tables are in a very poor state of repair. The one they sat as at was too low to the ground so we eventually chose table number 53 which was rotten and surrounded by food on the floor and rubbish. Eventually we just all got so cold we had to insist going back inside. They sat us on a table next to the toilets, next to the door and next to a very loud speaker playing Frank Sinatra that intermittently cut out just adding to the pain. Shocking selection of Real Ale, surrounded by such excellent breweries on their doorstep such as long man and Harveys. They had one ale, Old Speckled Hen on draught which was freezing and slightly fizzy. What the hell's all that about for a sussex pub?????

Very tasty Sunday roast. Not cheap; but they obviously know their market. They have a large beer garden which was super on a warm September day.
