My girlfriend got asked to check her ID when asking for a reduced price while the people in front of us (white) did not get ask to prove anything and getting a reduced price. The person at the entrance saying \but how do we know you are from China\. Dear casher, it is possible to look Asian and be European as well. Thank you very much. Once we paid the HUGE price of 16 euros, we were hoping to, at least get our experience worth the money. No maps given, indications are non existent so you are left on your own and the place being super huge we just passed 3 times in front of the same thing because the entrances and exits of the places are on different streets. Also be aware that most excavations will be closed at 4pm for absolutely no reasons. We did not have the time to see everything. They were closing some part of the streets as well. The ruins are beautiful but its such a shame that a place like this is managed so poorly.

Pompeii is one of the places I think you must visit. I have been twice, once in December and once in June and I highly suggest a December trip if you can make it. In June it is hot and very crowded, in December we felt like we had the entire city to ourselves. You need about 4 to 6 ours to really explorer this city, depending on how fast you walk. Also, before you get in beware of all the tour guide traps, don’t listen to them, just keep walking. When you arrive by train taxi’s will try to give you a ride to the city (it’s a 5 minute walk to the gate) if you accept they will take you to the far gate which can be good because you can walk through the city and exit by the train station, up to you.

Pompeii is great, but bought my ticket online. Very unclear that there was a specific entrance. Then our tickets were invalid because we later than the indicated time due to delays in the train network. The sellers on the audio-guides are very persistent.

This is an amazing place. I've been here 3 times and there is always something new that you'll notice or pass by. Definately must see.

For the price you pay, they could offer a better service. Pompei has lacked proper maintenance for years. No discount if you book online. One interesting fact is that the lava preserved Pompeii, more than from the elements, from humans. Because all around Campania (especially in Pozzuoli) there are countless Roman cities and ruins. Unfortunately, there (uncivil)people and institutions, build new houses on top of archeological sites, destroying them.
