One of the important railway station in the Chennai - Gummidipoondi railway route. After Ennore , its Ponneri station that contains railway police office inside the station. Wheel access available , parkings available , auto facilities available outside the station. I will not say this is best , but it is an average typical indian railway station with basics necessities.

Busy Railway Station on the stretch with 5 tracks that connect North India with Tamil Nadu. Still, this stretch gets step motherly treatment from Southern Railway. Further, 4 decades old EMU trains are still run on the stretch with lesser number of compartments adding to the heavy rush. Travel time to and from Chennai has been miserably increased over the years by 35-40 minutes despite the advancements made in technology. So, the EMU trains always used to run behind the schedule. It is to be noted that previously EMU train journey to and from Chennai used to be only 50-55 minutes. Now it takes a whopping 90 minutes, a delay of 35-40 minutes. It is to be further noted that the strides made in technology over the years must have only helped in reducing the travel time. Strangely when it comes to this stretch, it is the quiet opposite. It shows the strides made in technology has not been efficiently put into use in this stretch. Adding to this, unscheduled stoppages and unexplained delays are more in the stretch. Train frequency is also very low at only 2 EMU trains per hour. The delay in travel time is unexplained. All these facts speak the poor state of affairs in the Southern Railway, it's don't care attitude and poor time management. It is to be noted that Ponneri is being developed as a smart city by the Government of India. So, the GM of Southern Railway has to wake up from the slumber and treat the stretch on par with Tambaram and Tiruvallur stretches and do the needful to improve the efficiency of EMU train services in the stretch immediately.
