A highlight of visiting Ponta Delgada. Buy the three museum package, it is well worth it. As a Jesuit College, it is unlike most churches you might visit. The ornate woodwork in the chapel is a marvel. The various exhibits in the building are intriguing indeed. The artwork - very compelling & thought provoking. The handheld guided tour is excellent, giving you an in depth tour of the Jesuit College and the various displays. Highly recommended, time well spent.

Very lovely art. This is a very small museum part of a trio of museums which are absolutely worth visiting. There are only five euros for all three but they are all very small. If I had to choose one I would choose the natural history one and then this would be my second. However if you're into really unique things there is a altar alcove in their sanctuary that's entirely carved out of wood. It is quite spectacular.

The carvings at the alter are amazing and absolutely worth the minimal museum entrance fee

We got the three museum package which was a very fair price pay. The are a block or two away from each other. Easy walk though.

This 16the century church is more than it seems: it is the home to the Sacred Art Exhibit of the regional Museum Carlos Machado, that presents reliques and artistic splendour from throughout the religious period of Sāo Miguel. On other floors there are exhibits of modern and contemporary paintings, while the church facade retains the stoic religiosity typical of the medieval settlers.

Extraordinary historical church built starting in 1591.
