Complete scam! I wish I had read the reviews. We have rented cars from Goldcar for the past 3 months in Lisbon, no problems. This place charged us 100 euros for “missing screws” on the rear trunk baggage shelf that were never there to begin with. Literally 2 missing screws in a place we never would have looked! Then they wouldn’t take us to the airport until we agreed to sign the paper stating it was our fault. Then, after making us late, they will only drop you off at the parking lot furthest from the terminal.

The best thing we did was walk away from the reservation desk! We have hired a vehicle online from Goldcar as we were drawn in by the very cheap rates. We then read the reviews and were prepared for battle, seeing as so many people had negative experiences with this company. On pick up in Ponta Delgada, the woman at the desk refused to let us see the car (which we already paid for online!) or see any T&Cs until we paid the very costly deposit - we disagreed and she slammed our documments onto the desk, telling us to leave. We walked out loosing half the cost of our booking yet keeping our sanity - other Trustpilot reviews mention their 1300 deposit not even returned after months - and that was the smartest thing we could have done. Instead, we rented a car from a local company called Micauto which were excellent when our car was vandalised; don't even want to imagine what would have happened if that was a Goldcar car! Dodged a minefield there. Don't let those cheaters ruin your holiday, book with localy owned companies instead!
They have a unclear fuel policy and in the end we paid but didnt get a car because the creditcard and drivinglicense have to be on the same name.
Quality new car (Opel Astra) for a decent price. Full insurance slightly dear but understandable for the roads and parking in São Miguel, and zero hassle on return. Top service from the brilliant João who also dropped us back off at the airport! :)
Everything was smooth, from the pick up at the airport, to picking up the car and returning it. No problems whatsoever and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely rent from here again.
Would not rent from this company again. We rented a car for our vacation and when we arrived at the airport we were confused as to why there was no check-in counter or location to pick up the car at the airport. All the other rental companies had this. We then had to call and ask where to go and we were eventually picked up and driven to a location not in the airport to pick up the car. The other guests were confused as well. We then had to return our car a day early because they do not open early enough to accommodate people leaving in the morning from the airport. They do not have a lock box you can drop the keys at either. The staff was incredibly rude in helping to explain why they do not open early enough for customer to return cars. If you have a flight that leaves before 8:30 am you will not be able to return your car. We had to pay for a cab back to our hotel and then to the airport because of this. We also did not get a refund on the following day. Bad customer service, bad location, not at all convenient and overall they were difficult to use. I do not recommend using this company.
This rental company is not based at the airport, it is fake advertising. Take into account that their transfer can be delayed and take some time to get to the car depot.
