The Twin Sails Bridge in Poole is constructed in five spans, with a total length of approx 456 ft and was opened to traffic on 04-Apr-2012. Unfortunately, whilst it's always been a visually compelling bridge design, the bridge lifting mechanism has been beset with performance issues throughout its existence. Most recently, the bridge has been under safety restrictions due to a hydraulic issue with its lifting mechanism. STOP PRESS 15-DEC-2020: Work to install a replacement pin & bearing within the second cylinder on Twin Sails Bridge in Poole ran into difficulty last week and repairs will now not be completed until the New Year 2021 . . . a fingers crossed forecast, we suspect.

Looks amazing in the day and at night due to the lights all the way along the sides. Expect long waiting times when the bridge is open and lots of queuing.
Its good when its working, but very slow.
Well worth spending ten minutes watching this bridge raise and lower. Great example of engineering and beautiful to watch.
Sometimes works, expensive design which seems to have included added mechanical faults; maybe the council got confused and thought they were added extras. The old bridge gets my vote every time and atleast it works consistently.
