We now have around 40 employees. We are subject to political authority through the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. Together we represent broad and specialised expertise with extensive experience from research and industry. The state enterprise Gassnova works on the development of technology for the capture, transportation and storage of CO2 (CCS) through the CLIMIT research programme and through Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM). Gassnova coordinates and monitors work on full-scale CCS in Norway and is an adviser to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy on issues concerning CCS. The capture, transportation and storage of CO2 must start being used if the world is to meet its climate goals. It is not possible to make industry emission-free without with initiative. About a quarter of the world's CO2emissions come from industry. Gassnova was established to help industry to develop and apply the solutions for the capture and storage of the greenhouse gas CO2. This includes supporting research and development, and facilitating the testing of technology. Last but not least, it involves establishing an entire value chain for the capture, transportation and storage of CO2. At present, there are plans to build CO2 capture facilities at three industrial companies in Eastern Norway: Norcem’s cement factory in Brevik, Yara’s ammonia factory in Porsgrunn and Fortum Oslo Varme's energy recovery plant at Klemetsrud. Simultaneously, Statoil is also proposing the development of a CO2 store in the North Sea and Gassco is planning a solution to transport CO2 by ship. All parties in the Storting support the aim to realise a full-scale CCS chain by 2022. All planning work is due to be completed by 2019, and the Storting will then take a final decision on the investment. The goal of the project is to pave the way for new projects that can either make use of the existing infrastructure or establish new infrastructure. Gassnova is subject to the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.
