These mills are a reminiscent of World war 2 and the Japanese bunkers, one of the bombs landed here and the destruction was massive. The sight has still been preserved for its martyrs and attracts many tortured. The mill serves two functions- a playground for intellectual tourists who look beyond the beauty to explore the trouble heritage of these beautiful islands. Chatham mill has a museum that tells the tales of Dutch colonists- whi started a dairy factory at Nicobar and failed miserably, the bulls and cows dessertsd by them later turned feral and meat-eaters. It tells the tale of World War 2 and the Japanese attacks and also that of British colonists. The mill also has beautiful wood logs of Padauk that turn into handsome looking wood-work and furnitures. The mill manages all the wood from forests and has a huge capacity.

It is basically a factory for wood works. The museum is nice. The artwork is great. There is a Bomb Pit inside the mill at the backside where you can see a pit which is due to the bomb dropped by British during 1942.

Chatham Saw Mill could be one of the few government operated Saw Mill. It is kept as a tourist attraction and also still working. You can collect the tickets just outside the Saw Mill. While entering the Saw Mill you can see a map showing the tourist attractions inside. Except the heavy machinery being used there, everything in there is just mechanically operated including the track loaded bin used for moving the logs. You can go through the places like the Bomb pits, Japanese Bunker ( used when japanese took control of Andaman). There is also a Souvenir Sales Counter which sells quality wooden items. Good tourist place. Recommended

One of the oldest and largest wood cutting arrangements. . The raw tree loading happens from the sea and brought to main cutting machine of 8' and then to the required sizes of length breath and am width. . Everywhere it's just on conveyor or rails. . Entire handling facilities are done. . Massive wood structured sheds are made and facilitated arrangements make negligible human effort to all these. ..
