No counseling for trauma or addiction is provided. You are forbidden to speak about your past life, and are expected to have a new one from entry and bury away your old problems. A typical day was making your bed with a specific crease fold that they would inspect and often critique, doing an assigned job, and about an hour after every meal sitting on the floor to read a pocket Bible, and in the evening a service and sometimes one of the counselors would speak. The jobs you could have were auto shop, working in the kitchen, or working the grounds. I was given auto shop as a job thinking I would learn something about car repair. Instead each day we were given a different counselors car to detail and no matter how good we did they always told us you missed a spot which we were expected to clean extra. you couldn't call home at all for a few months after you get there, and even once you are allowed to you only get one 10-minute phone call a month. It's been quite some time since I've been there, and I have managed to stay clean off opiates and have a wonderful life. I needed to address my past issues and deal with my problems head-on, not bury them and forget about them and pretend they never existed. I went to another treatment center and learned to deal with my issues in a way that doesn't require using drugs. I have done speaking to prisoners, children, and adults in rehab and outpatient treatment. Someone was referred to me for advice on what to do with her son, and had mentioned Team Challenge. I told her that although I am a Christian, I would not recommend this place at all. That conversation made me revisit my awful experience and feel the need to warn anyone checking reviews.

The best decision I've ever made in my life was choosing to go to Appalachian Teen Challenge. God works miracles through the staff there and I am FOREVER grateful!!!
Far from the best place to send a child or anyone else who suffers from opiate addiction. The best treatment is a non narcotic medication called vivitrol. Vivitrol removes the cravings blocking opiate receptors so that you cannot get high. It will detox you in about 24 hrs. After taking your first dose. You will then be put on a shot of this miracle drug every 30 days allowing time for your mind to recover from the ravishing's of opiate abuse. When you come off the drug there will be no withdrawals considering that vivitrol is not a opiate such as suboxone, or methadone. I strongly recommend no one go that route. This medication combined with prayers and a good support group and under the care of a good dr. is almost full proof. Remember Christian God gave us Drs. Unless they have changed Teen challenge does not believer in medication but when someone dies on them from severe opiate withdrawal or they have people walking the halls all night with there entire body crawling, vomiting, and having cold sweats for a week they will not be able to pray it away. Signed been there, done that and won Ps since I smartened up and got professional help I have been able to remarry to a wonderful wife, almost done with a college degree. I felt hopeless then prayers alone are not enough you need to take what the medical profession has to offer. There is no magical scripture trust me not many study the way I did
